Privacy notice
This notice explains how collects, uses, shares, and deletes information in the United States phase-one beta.
Information we collect
We collect your music-provider identity and profile details, AudioBarrio username, encrypted provider credentials, optional recovery email, age eligibility category, friendships, privacy settings, reactions, normalized listening activity, messages, reports, and administrative actions. Authentication sessions may include an IP address and browser user-agent. We do not store birth dates, payment information, audio files, precise location, or address-book contacts.
How we use information
We use this information to authenticate members, synchronize permitted listening activity, operate the friends-only feed and chat, enforce privacy choices, prevent abuse, review reports, provide account recovery, maintain security, and meet legal or provider-platform obligations. AudioBarrio does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Visibility and controls
Accepted friends may see up to 24 hours of eligible shared activity. Pausing sharing hides activity while private tracking may continue. When sharing resumes, you choose whether eligible activity from that pause becomes visible. Pausing tracking stops imports and prevents later backfill. You can remove friends, block members, delete listening history, delete your own messages, disconnect providers, or delete your account from settings.
Service providers and disclosures
Information is processed by the music services you connect and by infrastructure, database, security-email, and deployment vendors used to operate AudioBarrio. These vendors receive only the information needed for their services. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people, investigate abuse, or secure the service. Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud remain independent services with their own terms and privacy practices.
Retention and deletion
Listening events, ordinary messages, and in-app notifications are removed after 30 days. Reported-message snapshots remain until review is complete and for 30 days afterward. Expired verification and username-reservation records are removed automatically. Disconnecting a music provider deletes its credentials and the listening events imported through that connection. Account deletion removes the account and associated AudioBarrio data, subject to narrowly required security or legal records.
Age eligibility
AudioBarrio is for people age 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. Registration blocks anyone who identifies as under 13 before provider authentication begins. Members age 13–17 must confirm parent or guardian permission. If we learn that information was collected from a child under 13, contact us so it can be investigated and deleted.
Security
Provider credentials are encrypted before storage, access is limited by server-side authorization, and secrets are not returned in client responses or application logs. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so members should report suspected account misuse promptly.
Your requests
Settings provide self-service access to core privacy controls and deletion. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about disclosure of your personal information. We will verify requests before acting on them and will not discriminate against someone for exercising an applicable privacy right.
